Experimenting with varied roles and getting critical acclaim for his performance in films like ‘Raam’ and ‘E…’, Jeeva is on to yet another challenging role in ‘Pori’ where he is teamed up with
Pooja.
The film, directed by Subramania Siva (of the super hit film ‘Thiruda Thirudi’), centeres on a youth who takes life easy, his life centering on love and friendship. But his life takes a turn and he becomes a more socially aware person, trying to fight injustice done to him and to those around him.
The hero and the heroine have contrasting natures. While the hero believes that a lie can be told for a good cause, the heroine, who works as a TV anchor, is firm that a lie should never be uttered even if it is to save someone’s life. Further, the hero is an admirer of Periyar, and his father (played by Delhi Ganesh) owns a bookshop named after the Dravidian leader.
A set reportedly costing about Rs 25 lakh was erected at AVM Studio. It was the set of a street, named Bharatiyar Street which had a bookshop, by-lanes and houses. Most of the action takes place in the street, and the schedule went for about three weeks there. An item number too was picturised there, and it was Daisy Shah from Mumbai who danced to the tune composed by Dhina. The set was designed by G K, and wielding the camera was Ekambaram. Editing is by
Antony.
Shot around locations in Besant Nagar, Ashok Nagar and K K Nagar among other places, the film is produced by Karthik and Sambandam for Nivi Pavi Creations. The supporting cast includes Delhi Ganesh, Karunas, Nagesh, Kadhal Dandapani and ‘Ghana’ Ulaganathan, and director Seeman in a crucial role.
