Cast And Crew
The titles start rolling along with some hilarious visuals. We get to see some tigers tasting grass and President Bush shaking hands with Osama Bin Laden. We even get to see a board in front of a petrol bunk saying that one liter petrol costs just two rupees.
Welcome to Vijay Anand's world of lies. Poi Solla Porom, starring half a dozen leading stars, is all about telling lies cleverly to win the battle for justice. It tells you the story of an innocent middle class retired person Sathyanathan's (Nedumudi Venu) dream to own a land and build a house. While he succeeds in getting a land, Baby (Nasser), a land shark, shatters his dream by grabbing his land in a fraudulent manner.
Sathyanandan, who has two sons - Uppilinathan (Karthik) a techie, and Viswanathan (Om), a student - and a teenage daughter, desperately tires to redeem the land with the help of police, court and even some rowdies. All his efforts go waste and the poor man gives up all the hopes.
Then his elder son Uppili, who has been indifferent towards his father's dream so far, swings into action. He sets aside his dream of going to US and determines to get back the land with the help of his girlfriend Pia and the travel agent Asif (Bossky).
Bossky, the erstwhile assistant of Baby, works out a plan to outsmart Baby in his own game. He plans to cheat him in the same way he operates. Uppili and Asif seek the help of a drama troupe (Mouli, Pia, Balaji) to stage the plan to cheat Baby, his assistant (John Vijay), and the broker Hanifa.
The plan and the execution form the rest of the story.
PSP, Vijay's second venture after Kireedom, is not a hilarious comedy fare. But it is an enjoyable movie thanks to smart scripting and some outstanding performances. The dream of the father, the cunning ways of Baby & co and the redeeming drama have been worked out well to make the fare quite interesting through out.
One wishes that Vijay could have made the first half a little bit faster. The drama to cheat the seasoned real estate businessman Baby could have been portrayed in more credible manner.
Nassar, as the real estate shark, steals the show with his outstanding performance. His body language, cunning smile, and casual talks make provide lot of entertainment.
Others including Venu, Mouli, Bossky, John Vijay, and Balaji, do their respective parts commendably well. Young Karthik in an important role probably for the first time, scores brownie points with his matured performance. Pia is impressive with her natural acting and expressive eyes. Hanifa is flawless as usual.
M G Sreekumar's music is competent and Aravind Krishna's camera work adds the exquisite flavor to the proceedings.
Overall, Vijay has hit the bull's eye with his clever adaptation of Hindi flick 'Kosla Ka Ghosla'.
Overall, PSP is a neat entertainer all the way.
