Chennaionline had screened the movie Die Hard
4.0 for its readers on July 27. We also invited the readers to
review the film for us, offering them a prize for the best
review. The winner is Ramesh Rao. Here are
the entries:
When compared to other action movies it's not
up to the mark. The stunts in the movie reminds me movies like
'Stealth', 'Hollow Man' and some of Vijaykanth's movies. Too
much of technical information such as ip addr, router config
etc., At least they would have explained a simple
algorithm/logic. Also this reminds everyone that this is an
American movie, also showing off that US has so much of tech
development. A good movie should make me forget that I am in a
theatre. This movie has done to a certain extent. A slight
humor, fast action, too much tech info and bit of US is Die Hard
4. I would rate 3.5/5 stars for this movie.

Thanks for inviting me for the preview of
"Die-hard 4.0" movie, which was shown to a select gathering on
Friday 27th night.
It is a racy, thrill-a-minute movie, with top
class acting from Bruce Willis & co. I enjoyed the scenes where
the hero tackles the villain in his own style. The action-packed
car/truck/helicopter chase is worth watching. Though at times
the way the hero comes out of the debris & chaos with minimum
scratches is somewhat unbelievable, an average Indian viewer can
digest the same since it is common in Indian (especially Tamil)
movies to see the hero remaining alive even after being shot
with a gun at close range.
Overall, it is fast-paced and entertaining
with a touch of human face as the lonely hero, with the help of
a chirpy youngster, goes about the job of destroying the evil
forces.

Die Hard - Movie Review
This is a fantastic action movie
Bruce Willis does an excellent job with
everything, full on action - snappy one liners, cheeky sarcasm -
McClane is definitely back!
I was really impressed with a montage in
which the villains patch together a 2-minute manifesto culling
together words and phrases of many-a-past President.
I’ll just say trust me this is the DIE HARD
movie we’ve all been secretly waiting for.
Thanks to Chennaionline for giving this
opportunity.

Here is a review from a reader outside
Chennai:
Story:
The Deputy Director of FBI's Cyber Crime
Division decides to go after those who have hacked into the
FBI's computers. On realising that most of the agents may not be
available to get to the hackers since it's the 4th of July, he
asks that the local Police Dept take care. John McClane, a
divorced cop, is one of them who is asked to bring in a hacker
named Matt Farrell (Justin Long).
Shooting takes place when McClane goes there
as someone wants all the top hackers out of the way. He manages
to get Farrell out, but they are still being followed. The
moment McClane lands in Washington, all hell breaks loose as
disorder and chaos reign supreme in a breakdown of the system. A
group of Internet Terrorists, led by Thomas Gabriel (Timothy
Olyphant) are breaking the American IT infrastructure. The stock
market is brought down, the power grids are down, the cellular
phone networks are down and the American economy takes a
beating. John and Matt figure out what's going on and Gabriel,
furious at this, kidnaps John's daughter Lucy. John and Matt
then fight their way into the ring and rescue Lucy in the end.
Review:
Old habits die hard. An action-packed
thriller from scene one to the last scene. Well, it is to be
expected of a normal Bruce Willis movie. The fourth edition,
coming as it does 20 years after the first one, is pretty
watchable. The movie is suitably updated to ensure the modern
generation's interest. It revolves around computer crimes.
The movie takes off at a fast clip almost in
the beginning and the pace never slackens. Bruce Willis as
officer McClane has successfully bridged the gap between the
first Die Hard and the latest one. He reminds the terrorist
group drily in one scene that despite all the computer power, he
(Willis) is still alive.
Some of the scenes are explosive reminders of
what a big-budget action movie should be like. Like the one in
which Bruce Willis uses a car to "kill a helicopter". "I ran out
of bullets", he says with a twisted smile.
The pace is pulsating, the action sequences
set your adrenalin pumping which keeps going for several hours
after you come out of the movie. The success of the movie lies
in the fact that the special effects do not rely on virtual
reality for realism. They are still old fashioned.
The movie successfully marries the old and
the new generation (aka Bruce
Willis seeking Justin Long's help in solving the crime).
The weak points? There could have been some
scenes to slow the pace down a
bit in the middle. The action is so hot that at times it becomes
unbearable. Also, the movie is dragged out over the last half
hour. The first one-and-a-half hours rock, the last half hour
you are waiting for the movie to end. Also, there are too many
holes in the script. Bruce Willis falls down from a bridge, gets
hit by a car, gets shot, and throughout all this manages to come
with just a bit of blood on parts of his body. He is mostly
unscathed enough to launch the next action sequence. The
computer scenes are hurried as though the director just wanted
them to rope in the new gen audiences and computer-lovers will
be slightly sore about it.
Yet, a thoroughly enjoyable blockbuster. Not
to be missed if you like the action genre.
Final Score: Two and a Half out of Four
Stars
