Films meant for children are hardly ever made here. So when an animation film is targeted at children and has original Indian content too, it is welcome. 'Hanuman' made in the 2D format centres on the exploits of monkey-god Hanuman.
The film traces the birth of Hanuman, his childhood, his playful mischievous narture, his encounter with the brothers Valee and Sugriva, his meeting with Lord Ram and his assisting him in his fight against Ravana in the rescue of Sita. Hanuman's mystical powers, supernatural strength and his valour, are all depicted here. Released earlier in its English and Hindi versions, Hanuman has now been dubbed in Tamil and released in Chennai. The 90-minute film has 40 characters and is a summer treat
for the little ones, apart from getting them acquainted with the heroics of this fascinating character from mythology.
More about the film
-
It's the 9th production venture of Percept Picture Company, who've made films like 'Makkadi' and
'Malaamal Lottery'.
-
It took nearly two years to complete the research and script work , and 3 years to complete the total film.
-
The overall budget came to Rs 6 crore.
-
The film, dubbed in English, Hindi and now Tamil, is to be dubbed in six more languages like Telugu, Gujarati and
Bhojpuri.
-
A sequel has been planned for a Diwali 2007 release. It would be more about Hanuman's relevance in
Kaliyuga.

Says Mahesh Ramanathan, chief operation officer of Percept Picture Company, ."What was encouraging was that the English version of 'Hanuman' has beat 'Harry
Potter..' in many centers.
"We had planned our release strategy well. The Hindi version was released during Pooja holidays, the English version during Christmas, and the Tamil version now during the summer vacation.
"Though 33 per cent of the population is below 15 years of age, there is no serious effort to cater to their tastes or entertainment. We are trying to do that. Further, 'Hanuman' has renewed interest in 2D animation. There is a lot more confidence now to make original Indian subjects in animation."
