Shopping in Ranganathan Street

To make the Navarathri Golu complete, it's not just the dolls but also the give-aways to guests visiting your home that needs to be taken care of. To begin with, after the 'alankaram' for the dolls is complete guests are invited to view the Golu and voice their opinion after which they are given gifts to make the entire event special and worth remembering.

Blouse bits, mirrors, sindur boxes, sundal and combs are given to guests who arrive to the home to view the Golu. Now if you are not aware of how to go about acquiring them at competitive prices, then this article is definitely for you.

In T Nagar, several merchants have roadside shops on the Ranganathan Street, Rameswaram Street and Usman Road that cater to the demands of the festival.

Here you can find blouse bits from Rs 15, Rs 20 and Rs 25, which if brought in bulk will have a reduction in price. The price reduction to great extent depends on your bargaining capacity. Anything from Rs 30 to Rs 50 is a modest bargain that you can ask for in bulk purchase. Of course, the materials range from cotton, polycot to silk blouses. For the traditional-minded there are also blouses with silk borders.

Moving on to the other items mentioned in the list is the mirror. Available in varying sizes and shapes, they are priced at Rs 3, 4 and 5 depending on their size. Buying small sized mirrors goes easy on your purse and luggage bag. Found in plastics there are various colours to choose from.

As for the combs, they can be small, big, rectangular, or square ones available in a multitude of shades. Depending on the size a dozen combs can be purchased for Rs12 or less. Whatever be your purchase, just ensure that they are not broken or are of poor quality.

The sindur boxes are the catchiest ones in the gift item. Images of Gods like Vinayaka, and Goddess Lakshmi and Saraswati is found engraved on the box cover in gold shade. A dozen boxes can be purchased for Rs 10 or Rs 18 depending on the size. The base is usually found in the shade of red, considered auspicious for religious occasions.

All these can be attractively packaged in small plastic baskets. Two baskets are priced at Rs 15 and if you bargaining prowess remain intact, you can reduce the price by a few rupees. Even sundal can be placed in small plastic boxes, if the plastic pouches are not fine with you. All you need to remember while purchasing the boxes is their size and if it fits in your budget.

Another interesting feature in the shoppers list is the Golu steps. Made in steel, the cost of three steps is kept at Rs 750 and for five steps it is Rs 1,100 or Rs 1,300 depending on the density of steel. They are available both in Khadi Kraft and in Ratna Stores. Besides, the Ratna Stores in Ranganathan Street also stocks the dolls.
