Dussera at Dakshina Chitra (Sep.30th-Oct 8th) The epic triumph of good over evil will be celebrated at Dakshina Chitra from Sept.30th to Oct.8th The Heritage Centre is joining with a variety of programmes related to Karnataka during this period. This includes Folk Dance performances, Doll exhibition (Golu), Handicrafts exhibition etc. Traditional decorations that include the Doll Exhibition or Golu will complement the festivities during Dussehra. The dolls are arranged in ascending rows, with those of the Gods and Goddesses at the top. There will be an exhibition of Dols at the Sattanur house on al the nine days of Dussehra. Kamsale a ritual dance performed by people of the Shaiva cult narrating mythological stories and Kolattam, another folk-dance will provide a visual treat for the visitors. Sri Madaiah and his troupe will perform Kamsale and students from various groups will participate in Kolattam. There will be vocal recitals, by well-known vocalists during this period, dedicated to the goddesses Lakshmi, Durga and Saraswathi.Craftsmen from various parts of Karnataka will demonstrate and sell their wares. A workshop on Kasuti embroidery will be held on 30th Sept. and 1st Oct. Other interesting handicrafts during Dussehra at Dakshina Chitra are Ilkal sarees from Karnataka, Ganjifa cards with epic stories painted on them, Toy Carpentary from Murugesh Handicrafts, Chennapatna Toys and other household products. Karnataka cuisine will be available throughout the season and a Mehendi demonstration is also planned. Make the first Dussehra of the Millenium a memorable one at Dakshina Chitra!
