Keep Tirumala Clean Campaign

The Roots of War

The Srivari Seva Group, the service wing of Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam Information Centre (TTD IC) has tied up with Exnora, a leading NGO in the area of community service and Parryware, the leading bathroom solution provider, to launch a Keep Tirumala Clean and Hygienic Campaign. This decision was taken yesterday at the TTD IC in Chennai, in the presence of Venkateswara Varma, AEO, TTD IC.

In an effort to make Tirumala a ˜Zero Waste Zone', the Srivari Seva Group led by C. N. Paramasivan, Co-ordinator, will combine with Exnora to clean up the surroundings at Tirumala. Commenting on the 'Keep Tirumala Clean and Hygienic' Campaign, Paramasivan said the Srivari Seva Group has a strong manpower base of over 4,500 volunteers and Exnora has the expertise to keep the surroundings clean. Together the two organisations will conduct the ˜Keep Tirumala Clean' operations on a regular basis. Parryware's decision to keep the bathrooms clean and hygienic and save significant amount of water is a welcome decision, he added.

Features of the Campaign:

1. Srivari Seva volunteers will clean Tirumala and its surrounding environment; 2. Srivari Seva volunteers will guide people to dump garbage in respective bins placed in Tirumala; 3.Rectify defects in all the 5,000 bathrooms at Tirumala; 4. Saving of 1,50,000 litres of water every day. Exnora Founder M B Nirmal said, “We are privileged to work with TTD's Srivari Seva volunteers. The common ground for Srivari Seva and Exnora is that both are working for a good cause to keep the environment clean. We estimate that around 80 tonnes of garbage is generated every day in Tirumala and our objective is to make Tirumala a Zero Waste Zone over the next few months.

While Exnora is associating with the Srivari Seva Group to clean up the external environment, Parryware has tied up with Srivari Seva Group to keep clean and hygenic the internal environment. As part of its role in the 'Keep Tirumala Clean Campaign', Parryware will take up the mammoth task of inspecting all the 5,000 bathrooms in Tirumala and rectify any defects in taps, closets, basins, pipes.

Parryware's Manager, Customer Support, K A Muthuvel said the company will check the water outflow in the cisterns and will adjust it to optimum quantity, thus saving at least 3 litres of water every time a person uses water in the bathroom. Through this effort, Parryware expects to save about 30 litres of water in every bathroom. Considering that there are about 5,000 bathrooms in Tirumala, this amounts to a water saving of about 1,50,000 litres every day and a yearly saving of about 5 crore litres (1,50,000 x 30days x 12 months) of water every year in Tirumala.

Muthuvel said, "We are happy to associate with TTD IC's Srivari Seva Group in their noble cause to keep Tirumala clean and hygienic. With water being such a scarce commodity in Tirumala, this will amount to a huge saving both in terms of water as a resource and also in terms of cost reduction in the purchase of water.
