Acrobatic show
Alliance Francaise of Madras with the support of the French Embassy in India presented WOULD YOU LIKE TO DANCE WITH ME?
by Tour de Cirque, a French acrobatic and jugglery troupe at the AFM on September 10th, 2005.
Once again, the new French Circus alighted at Chennai, to the delight of everyone. After Les Acrostiches and Les Cousins, it was the turn of Tour de Cirque to present its all-new show.
Tour de Cirque is a French circus troupe consisting of four acrobats, namely SaIlen Rose, Benoit Heliot, Marion Achard and Farid Abed, and two musicians and loads of fun.
Hearts, hats, balls and clubs waltz in the air... and that's not all! Glasses fly, so do candles, flower pots, diabolos, socks, and at times even girls are waltzing in the air!
A mixture of acrobatic feats and jugglery with poetry and humour. A show for those above 6 years, in particular.
Tour de Cirque is a disciplined body of the performing arts, whose members aim to interact with other cultures, while at the same time displaying the best of French gymnastics and jugglery.
The six artists have a common dream: to travel, meet people worldwide and take part in an active exchange of cultures. It is for this reason that they perform every new act of theirs in France as well as abroad.
Their activities can be divided into two parts: the actual show itself and the circus workshops. For the troupe, the cultural activities associated with the circus are a necessary complement to the presentation of the show.
Tour de Cirque has staged shows particularly in North and West Africa, Asia, Latin America and Europe to perform for sociaI and humanitarian organisations at no cost. It has not restricted itself to performances in the usual places. It has also gone off the beaten track to entertain people who are not readily accessible, such as a detention centre in Morocco and refugee camps in Guinea. It has helped the underprivileged and the children to realise their long-cherished dreams and to become a a bit of an artiste themselves.
The bonds of intimacy that emerge spontaneously between the troupe and the spectators leave a lasting impression on the minds of the viewers.
This is a show that can be performed for the young, the not so young, for those who love circus or simply for those who want to discover a new way of performing. The four artistes, in the manner of modern French circus, are at once jugglers, actors and clowns. Pirouetting and twirling, they enact a romantic encounter in the form of a narrative. Jugglery, acrobatic prowess, rhythm and choreography merge into aesthetic simplicity and the artistes succeed in endearing themselves to
the public with their natural charm and simplicity.
The story...
Gerard leads a carefree life: he likes to stroll around, look for love and goes to popular dance. But here, there is nobody to bring him his drink. He waits, and then makes a decision; he serves behind the bar... when two girls enter... and also a boy.
Each character is sketched in a poetic manner.
