Anchor tie-up with British General
Anchor Electricals, one of the largest manufacturers and market leaders of electrical switches and accessories in the world, has announced a tie-up with British General Ltd, the UK, to launch Woods, a premium range of electrical accessories, in India. The company also introduced the first-of-its-kind 'Woods Light Control & Home Automated System'.
Through Woods, Anchor will introduce a range of contemporary technology -driven switches and accessories in India. Woods has a widespread acceptance in Britain and in markets across the world and has ruled the luxury segment in Europe and the Middle-East.
Speaking on the occasion, Dinesh Aggarwal, country head, Woods, Anchor Electronics and Electricals Pvt Ltd, said, "The launch of Woods will help us further capitalise on the Anchor brand, which has become a generic name for switches in India. The scope of this JV includes the design, manufacture and sale of Woods range of product in India and SAARC countries to begin with."
He further added that, "The Woods range will bring aesthetics and superior workmanship to wiring accessories and shall re-define the way people look at switches in India. Woods will meet the expectations of every discerning designer and architect."
Woods is entering the Indian market through a 76:24 joint venture between Anchor and British General with an initial investment outlay of Rs 15 crore approximately. The Woods range of products includes British monoboc switches, wiring accessories under the brands Matrix, Viva, Scota, Elton and Rivoli, and a complete range of sophisticated home automation products, including light control systems or mood lighting, electronic sensors, anti-intrusion alarms and many other home automation products. These included light dimmers, shutters and PIR lights which get switched on as a person enters the house. One can get even special lights on for a 'party' setting.
Sashi Nair, president, Anchor Electronics and Electricals, said the home automated system would be available at a price ranging from Rs 50,000 to several lakhs. They had recently installed a Rs 18 lakh system for just one house. He maintained that this was a utility system and not a fashion product. He said Rs 60 crore was spent in one year on new systems and machinery.
