Leather show
After witnessing a smashing year, with export value crossing $ 2 billion, the Indian leather industry announced the holding of the International Leather Fashion Show at the Chennai Trade Centre auditorium.
This year, the industry expects the fashion show to result in an immediate increase in exports for Indian exporters, due to an increased presence of international buyers coming for the show. With technology and the quality of Indian leather improving year after year, the Indian industry is looking forward to a booming 2005.
Habib Hussein, the chairman of the Council for Leather Export - South India, said, "2004 has been a fantastic year and we are kicking off 2005 in anticipation of an even better year for the Indian leather industry. With the leather industry currently going through rapid changes, we are looking at stamping our class and expertise in the global leather trade on the worldwide leather scenario."
This year, the international leather fashion show witnessed noted leather design companies such as Tata Exports, Bhartiya, Farida Shoes, Presidency Kid Leather, Bachi Shoes, Orient Express, Broadway Fashions and Ffarna Shoes providing products and designs for use at the show.
Leading international female models like Katrina Kaif, Vidisha Pavate, Carol Gracias, Nayanika Chatterjee and Nethra Raghuraman shared the ramp space with Indian male models Rahul Dev, Shawar AIi, Zulfi Sayed, Kelly Dorjee and Upen Patel, to name just a few.
The event being hosted in Chennai, one of the largest hubs of leather industry in India, it will also host a large number of leather product manufacturers, who will get the chance to meet and mingle with international buyers and the media alike. It will give them a chance to establish rapport, strengthen existing relationships and, more importantly, give them a chance to learn what the current trends and movements in the international leather trade are.
Speaking on the importance of the International Leather Fashion Show, Yavar Dhala, member of the trade dinner and fashion show committee said, "The leather fashion show goes a long way in promoting Indian leather design and competence where the international community is concerned. We get the chance to showcase our leading designers, our world-class workmanship and manufacturing capabilities as well as our ever-increasing recognition in the global leather arena."
