Unlike many of his film world predecessors who earned huge sums of money and frittered it away in fun, frolic and festivities, Sivaji Ganesan was perhaps among the first to invest his hard-earned money in businesses, real estate and other forms of productive use.
He had some houses built in Chennai which were let out, while 'Santhi Theatre' on arterial Mount Road or Anna Salai was managed by his brother Shanmugham. It was, in fact, his brother who took care of his business interests.
Sivaji was said to be careful with his money, to the point of even being considered frugal.
Sivaji Productions came into being in Gopalapuram, which took up making of films and later also took up TV serials as the small screen too offered opportunities.
In many ways, Sivaji was a role model for the younger set of actors and actresses even in the need to invest money in productive forms so as to fall back on that income on a rainy day.
