Nutrine Confectionery Pvt Ltd recently handed over scholarships to 80 students in south India, including 21 in Tamil Nadu. The total amounts spent on students was Rs 21 lakh, said its group brand manager Putta Sekar.

A function was held in Chennai to hand over Rs 5,000 each to 21 students in Tamil Nadu by way of the scholarship. In all, the company spent Rs 4 lakh on scholarship alone. In addition, it provided video games and scales to one lakh children, he said.

'Nutrine Aasay' had launched a contest in which thousands of children in the states of Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka participated. They had to collect the wrappers of 'Nutrine Aasay' with the alphabets forming the words scholarship, videogame and aacale. The wrappers had to be sent to Nutrine company. Based on the words collected by the children, the prizes were despatched.

Last year, the company had provided nine home PCs and 6,000 calculators, the company's general manager (sales), Raghunathan, said.

Shankar, senior branch manager, said one of the dealers would also be picked by lots to go to Singapore on a paid holiday.

Putta Sekar said the campaign was immensely successful as sales had doubled during the period.

The company also exports chocolates to the US, Dubai and Malaysia.
