Squash Rackets Federation of India (SRFI), the government-recognised body for squash in India, recently presented awards to national squash coaches for their outstanding contribution towards the development of the game.
N Ramachandran, secretary general, SRFI, presented the awards to the coaches at the ICL Squash Academy based in
Chennai.
The awards are a step towards encouraging and promoting the sport on a national level. The awards were presented on the sidelines of the three-day
'SRFI Coaching Conference 2006' held recently at the ICL Squash Academy. Around 40 coaches from across the country participated in the conference.
The different topics discussed during the conference included rules on Refereeing, Strength training and Exercise physiology, amongst others. Major (Retd) S Maniam, consultant coach, SRFI, the chief coordinator of the conference, presented a scientific approach to training and coaching and covered all aspects of training from beginners to senior players.
Speaking on the occasion, Major (Retd) S. Maniam, said, "Such a gathering of coaches from around the country enriches the knowledge of the participants towards a scientific and systematic approach to coaching."
Other speakers at the conference included Yogendra Singh, a level-2 coach from Delhi, Rajiv Reddy, assistant national coach, and Dr B I Singh, sports medicine expert from Delhi.
