The Chennai Police Commissioner, R Natraj, will participate in the Chennai Marathon on 20th February, chairman of the organising committee, George Cherian disclosed on 28th January in Chennai. 

The event is being organised by Rotary International District 3230.

A few other IPS and IAS officers as also celebrities from the world of fine arts are expected to take part at least in the Celebrity Run (1 km), which is being held without disturbing the other Marathon events, George said.

Prominent cricketers who have confirmed their participation are Badani and Balaji, he added.

The Member-Secretary, Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu, said the Chennai Marathon had already evoked tremendous response. Over 20,000 persons were expected to take part in this year's event, Run for a Cause, he said adding that refreshment booths, water points, medical facilities, security (all along the route) and other aspects as nandated by Marathon regulations had been ensured by the Committee.

The Director of Temenos, Jayanthan, speaking on behalf of the main sponsors, said the company promoted sports events all over the world, and it was happy to be a part of the Chennai Marathon. He assured support to the event at least for the next two years.
