Teenager pageant Events

Here’s a chance for every young boy and girl to show the world what real stuff they’re made of! Without having to spare a thought for an hourglass figure or Sly Stallone-like muscles, you can still be a winner. By virtue of your personality, rather than looks. Leave way for the ‘Teen of the Year’, a national-level personality pageant that will hit Chennai very soon.

Unlike several other contests that are surfacing in recent times, the main focus at the ‘Teen of the Year’ is on overall achievements and the total personality of the participants rather than on the usual assemblage of delectable body parts. What is sought in the ‘Teen of the Year’ participant is intrinsic strength of character, leadership, the ability to learn, to reach out to others and share, a sense of vision, respect for all creation and humaneness, values to which he or she does not merely pay lip service, but actually lives by.

In its 12th year now, the pageant is annually organised by the national youth magazine ‘The Teenager’, published by St Pauls/Better Yourself Books, Mumbai.

The theme for the pageant this year is ‘Indian Youth – Guardians of the Environment’.

The pageant attempts to help the participants discover their latent talent and dormant goals in life, quite unlike the other pageants that look for external beauty, looks and size zero figures.

The 21 participants for the event every year will be chosen from various zonal events held across the country: Bangalore, Chennai, New Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai and Pune, representing different regions of India. They will compete for the prestigious national title ‘Teen of the Year 2007’.

Teens from different parts of the country come to the pageant to learn, share and discover themselves by interacting with others; to help others to discover themselves, to cooperate with others and yet be their unique selves — to laugh, to make life-long friendships, to become a part of the ever-growing movement, to write a new story called the ‘Teen of the Year’.

The Chennai Zonals is being held across two days, October 5th and 6th this year. With the participants indulging in a rapid fire of activities like quiz, group dynamics and interviews on the first day, October 6th will witness a public gathering where each participant showcases his/her talent on stage. The complete performance of the participants over the two days will be evaluated and the finalists who will represent the Chennai region will be chosen at the end of the day.

To add more meaning and mobilise the theme for the year, ‘Indian Youth – Guardians of the Environment’, the participants will be planting 25 saplings sponsored by the Rotract Club of Madras Mount, in the campus of ‘Mithra Foundation’, the venue of the first day’s events.

Dr J Radhakrishnan, I.A.S., Additional Secretary, Financial Dept, Government of Tamil Nadu will be the chief guest for the talent round on October 6th and Naresh Gupta, I.A.S., Chief Electoral Officer, Public (Election) Department, Tamil Nadu, will be the guest of honour. The final leg of the Chennai zonal will be held at SIGA, 10 Taylors Road, Kilpauk, Chennai – 600 010 at 10 am. All are welcome.
