Norit into water project Business

For more than two decades now, Norit has been active in India, serving the local market with state-of-the-art products and technologies.

Norit India (P) Ltd has now been set up in Chennai, India. Setting up a Norit Sales Office locally is a means of further improving our service and support in India, its spokesperson said in Chennai.

"By doing this we can listen closely to customer demands and respond to the needs of India's growing industry and environmental awareness," he said.

Established in 1918, Norit has a long-standing history and expertise in the field of activated carbon treatment.

What began with the production of activated carbon on industrial scale, mainly for discolouring sugar syrup, soon advanced into a leading company operating worldwide. Besides activated carbon, the product range includes membranes, aseptic and hygienic valves, carbon dioxide systems, quality control equipment and pumps allowing the Norit group to offer cutting-edge components, systems and solutions to the purification processes of potable water, process water, wastewater, beer and beverages, dairy, food, pharmaceuticals, flue gas and environmental control, to name just a few.

Today, more than ever, water is one of the most valuable commodities on earth. Each year, the world population is growing by about 90 million to an estimated 8.5 billion by 2025. Nearly 75 per cent of the world's fresh water is locked into glaciers and icecaps, with virtually all the rest underground. A very small percentage of the world's total water, about 0.01 per cent, is easily available for human use.

Even this tiny amount would be sufficient to meet the world's need if only it were distributed evenly. However, this is not the case and our world today is divided into water 'have' and 'have not' areas. Moreover, the availability of water is declining and more than 2.6 billion people around the globe do not have access to safe potable water.

Being aware of this is definitely a challenge and a driving force for the water section of the Norit group to further advance their technologies in order to contribute to providing safe potable and process water to everyone in the near future, the spokesperson said.

"Seeing that already more than 8 per cent of the world's population - more than half a billion people - use water purified by Norit Activated Carbon and/or Membrane Technology, is an acknowledgement of the hard work and efforts taken so far and certainly an additional motivation," he added.
