 Chennai-based TVS Motor Company, a two-wheeler major, has unveiled its new 150 CC motorcycle, 'Apache', mainly targeting the youth of the country.
Powered by a 13.5 brake horse power (BHP) engine, the stylish-looking bike would be available in Tamil Nadu markets within a month and the nationwide launch would take place either in January-end or early February, Venu Srinivasan, chairman and managing director of the company, said after the launch.
"Within three to four months from now, we hope to sell 25,000 units of this bike," he said, adding that the company would consider the export market after meeting the domestic needs.
Venu Srinivasan said the company presently had a capacity to produce 15,000 units of this five-speed bike at its Mysore plant, with a provision to expand the production capacity to 25,000 units a month.
The company had spent nearly Rs 15 crore to develop this new bike, which fell in the 'premium segment' of two-wheelers. He claimed that the inductive digital ignition (IDI) technology used in the engines would result in a host of benefits to the rider, with excellent engine response, consistent fuel economy and good 'cold startability'.
"With the launch of this new product, the company is set to redefine and strengthen its position in the 150 CC premium segment and consolidate further on total volumes," Venu Srinivasan said.
"This would be a stunner with respect to acceleration, performance, styling, ride handling, and stability. With its sporty and chiselled looks and unmatched performance packed with superior engine technology, the Apache is sure to be a head turner," said Prasad Narasimhan, vice-president, marketing.
Apache's engine is powered by 13.5 BHP and with the highest power-to-weight ratio in its class, the bike is slated to be the fastest off the block in the 150 CC category.
Prasad said, "The Apache has been designed and engineered to woo youngsters on the lookout for a motorcycle that is aggressive and sporty looking with class leading performance. "Apache's crisp engine performance is backed by new innovations and latest technology. The intake and exhaust surge technology will enable excellent initial pick-up and responsive acceleration the instant you open the throttle, providing a scintillating experience. On the other hand, the IDI engine technology will result in a host of benefits to the rider with excellent engine response, consistent fuel economy and excellent cold startability."
To complement the sporty stance and athletic looks, Apache will sport wide tyres in black alloy wheels of 17 inch in the front and 18 inch at the rear for greater road grip. A special paint is being used on the bike to add to the unique look. The synchronised stiff chassis developed using the latest lessons from TVS Racing will ensure easy manoeuvres through heavy traffic and total control at high speeds and tight corners. The rear suspension is equipped with state-of-the-art monotube inverted gas shox (MIG) to ensure ride comfort, he said.
The Apache riders will have four colours to choose from with alloy wheels as a standard feature. The bike will come with electric start and 240 MM front disc brake.
