Ford Fusion offers a unique combination of European styling, tough build, spacious and versatile interiors, command seating position, and superior driving experience all of which respond well to the target customer needs and aspirations. Ford's latest offering to the Indian customer combines elements from different pedigrees of vehicles. Ford Fusion combines the solidity, robustness, practicality and road presence of an SUV and the dynamic, agile qualities of a mid size sedan to create India's first Urban Activity Vehicle (UAV). At Bangalore to announce the plans for Ford Fusion, David Friedman, Managing Director and President, Ford India said, "Ford is set to revolutionize the passenger car industry in India with the launch of the Ford Fusion. An Urban Activity Vehicle, the Ford Fusion will introduce a car with a unique body style purpose-designed to appeal to progressive urban families who are looking for a smart, tailored answer to their complex personal mobility needs. The interiors are people-focused, spacious and practical, with high seating for greater visibility; while on the outside, Fusion's tough on-road presence is confident, protective and compact. It is the fusion of these attributes that inspired the vehicle's name - Ford Fusion." Ford India has already successfully produced the first Ford Fusion production prototype at its manufacturing facility near Chennai and is now in readiness to begin regular production. Deliveries are planned to be commenced within 15 weeks. The Ford Fusion will be introduced with a high localization level of about 70%. The bold-looking Ford Fusion is designed to meet the wide range of needs of today's modern urban family. These families require a car that gives them the confidence to drive easily through congested city traffic with a practical interior package that adds to driving enjoyment and passenger comfort. Fusion’s tough styling and increased ride height gives its driver the ability to see and be seen on crowded streets. The raised body and wheel design are optimized for tackling everyday obstacles like speed bumps and curbs. Large 15-inch wheels with wide 195/60R15 Tubeless tyres complement the tough & sturdy appearance of the car.
Fusion is about space for the modern family’s needs. Ford designers cubed out Fusion s body shape to create its taller, wider and longer occupant compartment. Its wider body and taller stance mean comfortable seating for five adults. Ample headroom, legroom and shoulder room, a higher seating position, easy entry and exit, generous luggage space, 60-40 fold-down rear seats, a flat load floor - together, these elements characterize the space and flexibility of the Fusion. The car has a unique 40:20:40 split rear seat cushion for greater flexibility and provision for rear seat activity console. Innovative storage spaces include front passenger under seat storage, space in the instrument panel, a top box with lid, passenger side stowage bin, space below the audio and a glove box. Added conveniences include tilt adjustable steering wheel, shingle style head rests in the rear, Seat belt height adjustment, rear defoggers and wash wipe, front and rear power socket for laptops and remote central locking & power mirrors. The Duratec 1.6 litre, 16 valve petrol power train contributes to Fusion's fun-to-drive flavour through a unique combination of advanced combustion technology, minimum weight, low internal friction and new levels of refinement. The aluminium construction of the Duratec 16V makes it one of the lightest, most compact and efficient petrol engines produced in Europe. Duratec 16V engines feature a double-overhead cam design, with four valves at an included angle of 42°. The spark plugs are nearly centrally mounted in the pent roof combustion chamber, allowing for circular flame propagation and improved fuel economy, especially in part-load conditions. The Duratec 16V range features a new, precision electronic drive by wire throttle control that eliminates inefficiencies of traditional cables, providing further improvement to responsiveness and drivability. The all-aluminum Duratec engine mated to a cable shift operated 5-speed manual gearbox makes for extremely smooth and spirited drive, be it city or highway. The high torque provides for quick acceleration and confident overtaking on highways. An all-new air-conditioning system specifically designed for India’s hot and humid climate was developed using Ford’s environmental wind-tunnel facility in Europe. A ‘variable swash plate’ AC compressor determines just what compression is required for optimal AC performance and vehicle drivability. A pressure transducer linked to the powertrain control module modulates engine speed to suit AC demand to further drivability. The Ford Fusion meets stringent Ford requirements of water wading for the market. Additional modifications have been done to improve the cabin sealing to protect it from water entry during wading through heavy monsoon. Dynamics
Every element of Fusion's chassis has been optimized to provide precision, stability, predictable control and comfort. The front suspension features McPherson Struts mounted on an extremely rigid sub-frame, which supports the lower A-arms of the suspension as well as the steering rack. This is the foundation for Fusion’s handling performance, and also helps to isolate road harshness from the body structure. Fusion’s suspension has been designed to provide generous travel, facilitating a more comfortable ride quality over city streets. Its agility means Fusion does more than hold its own in city traffic. The precision of its rack-and-pinion steering system contributes to driver confidence in traffic. Fusion’s driving quality has been engineered to cushion the bumps and jolts of the city. Its robust twist-beam rear suspension features twin-tube dampers calibrated for comfort, given that the urban path is not always smooth. Safety
High strength steels are used to create a rigid occupant protection cage with energy absorbing crumple zones around it. Tailored ‘blanks’ of different gauge steels are welded to create strength without adding weight. B-pillar structures provide high strength in the centre section and crushability at lower and upper joints, essential to absorb crash energy in side impacts. A cross- car beam support the instrument panel & steering column, providing additional strength. The Ford Fusion has been put through one of the most severe testing rigour in the market. The tests subjected the vehicle to varying terrains like highways, semi –urban roads, rough roads, and also city roads. Climate testing included humid and dry conditions and heavy monsoon rains. The car has also been subjected to the accelerated durability test at Ford’s Lommel Proving ground in Belgium, which subjects the vehicle to extreme conditions of structural durability and also accelerated tests for Chassis and Powertrain.

Wider and taller than mid size sedans, Fusion imparts a strong impression of purpose and strength. It has a high, proud bonnet line, with a prominent grille and "lozenge" shaped large twin chamber, headlamps. From the driver’s seat, the corner of the Fusion’s prominent hood is highly visible, making it easy to thread through traffic and tight parking spaces. Driver confidence is enhanced by deep windows and expansive front and rear windscreens, which offer exceptional visibility. 
Fusion's body shell is a highly effective safety structure. Using the latest science of crash energy management, the structural elements of the integral steel body have been developed so that the Fusion can exceed the crash performance criteria of all current European legislation.
