Kamla Ravikumar was born and raised in Bombay
(Mumbai). Her educational experiences are in art and interior design. She has designed and decorated residential and commercial spaces in Chennai for the last 15 years.
Kamla's love for
colour, fascination with the properties of glass and a passion for learning led her to pursue training in Tiffany-style stained glass in the United States of America. Her stained glass panels and doorway arches can be found in residences in Chennai and New Delhi.
'A Touch of Glass', is Kamla's first exhibition of Tiffany-style lamps and other stained glass objects such as mirrors, sun catchers and jewel boxes. These creations grew out of a demand from friends and clients for her stained glass work. She is presently experimenting adapting stained glass to jewelry and other accessories.
Kamla has had several exhibitions of her paintings. Many of her works are with several private collectors. She also manages Studio 41, where she teaches art and craft to women and children, and conducts preparatory workshops for students planning to pursue undergraduate studies in art or visual communication.
At Studio 41 she teaches drawing, painting, pottery, Tanjore glass painting, Tanjore painting, stained glass painting, fabric painting, shibori and Tiffany-style stained glass work.
