April 27th 2003: 2:30 pm Did you know there is a composition which was partly completed by Muthuswami Dikshatar and partly by Shyama Shastri among others? How about the story of Gopalakrishna Bharathi visiting Thyagarajaswami and being inspired to compose the song "Sabapatikku"? Has anyone told you about Shyama Shastri coming to the rescue of the Tanjore Court with his composition "Devi Brova"?
The Carnatic Music tradition is full of stories and anecdotes about composers and musicians which enrich our enjoyment of music and give us another dimension of our musical experience. T.M. Krishna's concert at the Cleveland Thyagaraja Aradhana on April 27th will be a special presentation. Billed as the Kalki Diamond Jubilee Concert, it will contain a selection of compositions chosen both for their music and beauty as well as the story that goes with them. It will be a full carnatic concert interspersed with brief anecdotes about the composition, the composer, or about the music itself.
Carefully crafted and presented with attention to detail - Krishna's exuberant and energetic music, outstanding accompanists on violin and mridangam - brief but poignant and enjoyable stories and incidents - will all come together for a rich and fulfilling musical experience.
