Ajit and his passions

He is one of those rare actors who has a life outside of films. Who is equally passionate about motor racing and flying, as he is of acting. Who is confident of making it to the top of motor racing as he is of making it to the No 1 position in films.

Candid, emotional, fiery and oozing confidence, Ajit's meeting with the press can never be a dull affair. He speaks his heart out oblivious of the reaction he evokes. At a recent meeting with the press, the handsome actor bowled the fourth estate with his honesty, admitting candidly, "I need the press, and I'm not ashamed to admit it!"

Ajit admitted that he may be giving some sleepless nights to his producers when he takes time off and goes for his motor racing. "I can understand their apprehensions. Motor sport is a dangerous sport and anything can happen to me." But the actor promised that henceforth he would be doing just two films a year. "And when I'm shooting, I won't be racing, and when I'm racing I won't be shooting."

Ajit also added that he wouldn't collect the advance on his remuneration. "I will collect my advance fee only on the day I start my shoot." So, this should put to rest all worries and anxieties producers go through when Ajit, midway between his shooting, goes away racing!

Rajinikant had quipped about the superstar-chair being vacant, and Ajit had openly said at the time that he wanted the chair and that he would get it one day. His 'open bidding' had led to sniggers among some, particularly when the actor's recent release 'Anjaneya' turned a dud at the box office.

But the actor is nonplussed by the negative reaction he's received. "When I entered films I neither knew anything about acting nor was I media savvy. I made quite a few mistakes, but I am here because of my positive frame of mind. I promise you I will reach the No 1 position in films and in racing! I need your encouragement and support," said the actor in an emotion-filled voice.

April would see the actor participating in the British Formula 3 Championship. And he's the fourth Indian to do so after Akbar Ebrahim, Karun Chandhok and Narain Karthikeyan to compete at this level.

like cricket, Ajit said his celebrity status would speed up the process of popularising the sport here. It's his extreme confidence and total belief in himself that has made the actor carve an enviable niche for himself in films. There's no reason why he shouldn't repeat it in motor racing too!
