Magic Moments

Music and magic certainly go together and you don't need a master illusionist always. A voice with the perfect notation and gradation does it all. What we hear is the symphony. Whether it is conch shells or drum beats we all have an ear for it. After all there is synchronism.

A singer from her school days, Latha Rajinikanth did away with stage fright and received prizes. Later in Ethiraj College where she studied, their 4-member team won inter-collegiate competitions. Soon college got over and she was married. Priorities took over and she did settle down in that hectic phase. But this did not keep her away from her 'riyaz'. Not classically trained, she grew up listening to maestros. "I'm an instinctive singer," she described herself. An ardent fan of 'The Beatles' and 'Abba' she candidly admitted before this correspondent that being a superstar's wife may push album sales. " But there was never any problem to establish myself as an individual."

Together with her daughters Aishwarya and Soundarya who study in Business School and Tenth standard respectively and Superstar husband, Latha Rajinikanth devotes time to her passion. After all it has been music every time. "And the experience is spiritual," Latha reveals. For the uninitiated she composes her own music and writes her lyrics too. For one who sings out her tunes and words at the same time it must instinctively arise within her. "Sometimes, it happens while I travel, so I need the mono every moment."

Her earlier special commemoration album for 'Rajini 25' had the theme music, two pop songs and two non-stop hits of Rajinikanth's film songs. 'Maayaajaalam' combines several moods in music and includes pop, folk rhythms plus two special English pop numbers. The title song is in Tamil, the English numbers are 'I'll be there' and 'You are a part of me'. There is also 'Bharatam' - a dedication to India in Tamil. The artiste also confirmed that there is no specific significance of releasing the album now. "I'm more relaxed now," she felt.

The copyright owners are Star Music, but it is being planned to rope in Sony Music for nationwide appeal. The music video is waiting to go off the air. This time there are no established movie artistes in the video. It is a visually appealing theme using light that creates miracles. A 'siddha' charm descends upon earth. As this light traverses there is a touch of goodness every where. The album and the video will not be targeted at any particular segment of society. All proceeds of her album and music shows will go for 'The Ashram's Daya Foundation' that will work for the care of children affected by the sudden demise of parents through accidents or suicide. This is a foundation for children without facilities for proper education or upbringing. The children can stay with their immediate families, while Daya Foundation will be their caretakers for education, basic needs and care. Plans are on to promote the album. Some interesting contests will be announced in the consecutive month followed by schemes to bring out student talents by way of competition held through her music albums 'Maayaajaalam' & 'Rajini 25'.

But the story does not end here. Latha Rajinikanth also happens to be a founder of The Ashram in Velachery. It is a regular school and houses 1500 students till class twelve. Latha believes aptitude is a major part of growing up for kids. With The Ashram Specialised Curriculum (TASC) on the anvil, the tuning will change the new curriculum. It will be a realignment of education. Keep up the good work Latha!
