It was a very fine evening at Kamarajar Arangam, on Sunday, 31st
October 1999. The melody duo of yesteryears were back on stage for a concert after a gap
of many years. Thanks mainly to the unstinted efforts made by Mr. U.K.Murali of UDAYARAGAM
that this was made possible. Film Actress Oorvasi Archana welcomed the artists and the
spectators who had gathered in huge numbers. Ms Archana, Kalaimamani P.Suseela and
Kalaimamani T. M. Soundarrajan lit the Kuthuvilakku before the beginning of the function.
Kalaimamani TMS started the show with his popular song `PULLANGUHAL
KODUTHA' and the South's melody queen began with `RAMAN ETHANAI RAMANADY.
These songs received very good appreciation from the audience. M/s Jaya TV who covered
this programme, plan to telecast it shortly.
The popular old-timers sung nearly 30 numbers that evening
and the programme went on till 10.30 p.m. Some of the songs are listed below:

After the song 'Unnai Kandu Naan Aada' Kalaimamani P.Suseela wished the audience a very happy
Deepavali. The Guinness man
Mr. U. K. Murali joined them for a few songs, notable among them being:"Paal Vannam Paruvam Kanden" with P.Suseela
"Nilavum Malarum" "
"Aval Parandhu Ponaaley" with TMS
In fact, Mr U.K.Murali changed the modulation to
resemble the original singers, namely, P.B.Srinivas & A.M.Raja. The
"Udayaragam" orchestra, particularly the Violin group, was very good rising to
the occasion and providing the right support for all the songs.
Kaviarasu Vairamuthu greeted the duo when he was called on
stage to give a short speech. He felt that without them the cine songs in Tamil could not
have become this popular among the masses. He appreciated TMS for being the main playback
singer for the two giants "Puratchi Thilagam" and "Nadigar Thilagam".
He added that his voice suited them both, for he could change it to suit the role and
character in their respective films. At the end of his speech he commented that he was
very keen to arrange a felicitation function with the lead pair of the evening, due to
their contribution to the Tamil Film Industry for more than half a century.
On the whole, it was a wonderful evening enjoyed by the
crowd who turned in full strength to fill up the arangam to hear all the melodious, most
popular old hits. Those who missed this opportunity can view the same on "Jaya
TV" when the recorded version is telecast on the stipulated day.
