VIT gets UK accreditation
The Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT) has been granted international accreditation from the Institute of Electrical Engineers (IEE), UK.
This was disclosed in Chennai by VIT Chancellor G Viswanthan. About 16 postgraduate and seven under-graduate courses of the VIT have been recognised as equivalent to the B.Engg (Hons) and M.Sc degrees of the UK universities, he said.
The accreditation received was for the following courses - mechanical, electronics, electrical, computer applications and IT, and computer science and engineering. Viswanathan said this would be available till 2009.
VIT teachers were eligible for recognition as international examiners and trainers, he said, adding that its training programmes were now under global scrutiny. Students enrolled since 2001 were eligible for IEE membership.
The VIT was collaborating with institutions in the UK, Germany, Australia, France and Canada in the sphere of academic and industrial training. MoUs had been signed with the governments of Rwanda, Bhutan and Uganda for faculty training and student enrolment, Viswanathan pointed out.
