Suriya's class act
Though controversies follow his movies like pet dogs, director S J Suriya says he is open to any kind of criticism and even feels the necessity of a censor board to streamline the film industry.
Director of super-hit movies like 'Kushi', 'Valee' and 'New', Suriya shared his experiences in the field of cinema with the digital film-making students of SAE Technology College recently.
Suriya said his ambition had been to become an actor. Saying that cinema was the best medium through which one can express one's thoughts, he felt that creativity, executing the project and marketing the movie were the most important qualities for a good director.
Good communication between the director, actors and technicians was absolutely necessary for the making of a good film. Asked about his multi-faceted personality and how he balanced between acting and directing, he explained that he loved doing both and manages his time accordingly.
About the secret of his success, he said his films always revolved around the plot or the seed of the story. Use of special effects also enhanced the film.
He was in favour of digital format in films and felt that it had a great future.
The director said formal education was also necessary and helped young students identify their potential. He advised the students to set a target for themselves and work hard to achieve it.
Giving a lucky break to the students of SAE, he also expressed his willingness to encourage young talent and accepted to provide a valuable platform for the students by taking in one of them as an assistant for his ongoing project!
SAE offers its students a platform to interact with various technical people of the Indian entertainment industry and, for the first time, they had the multi-faceted director-cum-actor Suriya sharing his valuable thoughts with the students.
