Footprints 2004
The Symbiosis Institute of Mass Communication (SIMC), Pune, presents the Chennai Chapter of
Footprints 2004 on October 30 with a day-long media seminar titled 'Creativity and Redundancy: The Two Sides of a Coin'.
SIMC, a leading institute of mass communication in India, is one of the 26 institutes of the Symbiosis Society. It is dedicated to providing quality education and producing dynamic media professionals.
Every year, the students of SIMC organise Footprints, a series of media seminars in various Indian cities. Footprints 2004 will travel through Ahmedabad,
Bangalore, Chennai, Kochi, Delhi,
Hyderabad, Kolkata,
Mumbai and Shillong. The Chennai Chapter of last year's Footprints was a roaring success, said Aishwarya Rao, coordinator of the team.
To call films the lifeblood of Chennai would be a gross understatement. The simultaneous growth of regional
TV has created ample space for advertising and it is not surprising that all major advertising agencies have a strong presence in the city. All these factors, along with Chennai's academic environment, make it an ideal venue for a seminar of this nature. Appropriately, the seminar includes sessions on creative trends in advertising, films and regional TV.
This seminar is directed at students of communication and those aspiring to be communicators. Media professionals, interested in the current trends of the industry, will also be able to derive benefits from it as some of the speakers include eminent media personalities like Krishnan Menon from O&M, film director Gautam Menon of
'Khaka Khaka' fame, writer and activist Sivasankari, film director Janaki Vishwanath , cartoonist
Madan and Anuradha
Ananth.
Passes for the seminar are priced at Rs 100 and are available at Gangotree, Landmark and Odyssey. For further details contact 9841657841.
The Team:
Chennai Footprints 2004 consists of seven dynamic trainees from SIMC - Aishwarya Rao, Ajey Kodlikeri, Anupama Shekar, Archana Venkat, Ranjitha Gunasekaran, Taranjeet Kaur and Vandana Krishnan.
Each of these trainees represents a different aspect of Symbiosis, coming from different backgrounds, cultures and specialisations to work for a common goal.
Aishwarya Rao, coordinator of the team, is known to many in Chennai as student union president of MOP Vaishnav 2003-4. A graduate in commerce, she is using her business acumen and undeniable charm to her advantage while she pursues a specialisation in public relations.
Ajey Kodlikeri studied commerce at Symbiosis Arts and Commerce. Currently a student of audio-visual communication at SIMC, Ajey's passions include photography and movies. His favourites include Hitchcock and Star Wars series. He is also greatly interested in graphics and animation and plans to get into visual effects.
Anupama Shekar is an alumnus of Stella Maris College. After completing a degree in computer applications, she freelanced as a journalist for a year, leaving that to formally study journalism at SIMC, a leeway to actively pursuing the social causes that mean so much to her. She also enjoys designing and along with Ajey has been responsible for the creatives of Chennai Footprints 2004.
Archana Venkat is an engineer, having graduated from St Joseph's College. She is a Madras University rank holder for 2004 and then made a shift in career, choosing to join SIMC to specialise in journalism. She is a sub-editor on SIMC's in-house publication, The Symbi Chronicle, and is known for her dedication and utmost professionalism.
Ranjitha Gunasekaran has a degree in English literature from Stella Maris College. She is currently indulging in her passion for writing by studying journalism at SIMC. Her interests include movies, literature and feminist theories. Ranjitha aims to branch into the field of film criticism and seeks to use the might of the pen to address women's issues.
Taranjeet Kaur is a topper in economics from Symbiosis Arts and Commerce. Currently a student of advertising, Taran has work experience in the field. She enjoys Hindi poetry and loves sketching portraits in her free time. Taran and Ajey are the two brave souls who ventured into Tamil territory, knowing neither the terrain nor the language, armed only with determination and a deep trust in
their team mates!
Vandana Krishnan, another member of the Stella brigade, also graduated in English literature. An avid movie-lover, she is specialising in audio-visual communications at SIMC. She believes in the power of the visual medium and plans to use it to raise awareness about enyironmental issues. She loves reading and also writes poetry. She has worked on all the literature for Chennai Footprints 2004 along with Ranjitha.
