Ignite '07 is being held in Chennai at IIT,
Madras, August 7-8, 2007, to promote creativity in students and
promote their innovations and give an opportunity to exhibit
their talent. Organised by the National Innovation Foundation (NIF),

has also a carnival in which students/teachers and parents can
participate.
Part I - A contest to identify and document
the creativity of students
Why this contest?
The purpose of the contest is to uncover the
hidden creative and innovative talent among the students.
Ignite '07 solicits schools to support it to
unleash children's creativity.
Ignite '07 solicits schools to encourage
students to develop the innovations of the their students
individually or in group and participate in this carnival
contest @ IIT Madras. What is an
innovation?
Innovations can be a basic toy robot,
machines, gadgets, implements, or processes for farm operations,
household utility, transportation for improved efficiency,
energy conservation or generation, and reduction in drudgery,
creative use of biodiversity, plant varieties, generation of
herbal remedies for human or animal health or developing new or
any other low-cost sustainable green technology related to
various aspects of survival in the urban and rural areas.
Creative ideas for innovative technologies which have not yet
become products, are also welcome.
The organisers believe that given adequate
recognition and mentoring, these ideas can change the world.
Samples of some of the ideas :
-
Attaching a sensor to a fan, to
automatically switch off the fan when no one is around.
-
Using waste water to generate electricity
for street lights.
-
Attaching buckets to each other through a
pipe to minimise overflow of water.
-
Using the fan like a windmill to generate
electricity for other household purposes.
-
A bike which runs on the force generated by
water and a turbine, instead of petrol.
-
These are just a few ideas from young minds
earlier. There could be more, just round the corner, ticking
in the minds of your students around you.

PARENTS
The children of today grow up with different
behaviour patterns and interest and they schedule their time,
their goals and their role models. Children have ideas,
knowledge and skills their parents did not have through
education and media and their interest can be as wide as those
of any adult.
Parents who are well-informed and involved in
their children's education are powerful partners for schools.
Providing parents with appropriate information regarding best
and effective practices is also the goal of this carnival.
Apart from all the above, parents get to have
special sessions which they cannot afford to miss!
Special sessions on:
Pay for what you get and get what you pay for;

the product they posses or wish to posses for their own good @
home, @ work and many more!
