K C G Verghese remembrance day
Noted educationist, philanthrophist and pioneering aviator, Dr K C G Verghese, was lauded by leaders, academicians and others for his lasting contribution to education, automobiles and aviation, on his first Remembrance Day, which also coincided with St Valentine's Day. The trustees of Dr K C G Verghese Charitable Foundation announced generous scholarships to deserving candidates in curricular, co-curricular and extra-curricular activities, both at the group institutions' level as also at the university level.
The welcome address was followed by Bible reading and a video presentation on the life of Dr Verghese. Anna University Vice-Chancellor D Viswanathan recalled the services of Dr Verghese, particularly his vision, ideals, achievements and service to the cause of the students and the community at large.
K V Mathew, general manager, B I Publications Pvt Ltd, publishers of Verghese's autobiography 'Wheels & Wings' recalled with nostalgia several anecdotes and experiences with Dr
Verghese.
In his commemoration address, Reverend Dr A M Chinnappa, SDB, Archbishop of Madras – Mylapore, recalled some of the great qualities of Dr Verghese and said he was among that rare breed of people who became great through their vision, abilities and perseverance. He also recalled the benevolence that Dr Verghese had bestowed on several fronts, to the needy and deserving through institutions such as the church, social service organisations and even professional
organisations.
In her concluding remarks, Elizabeth Verghese, chairperson, Hindustan Group of Institutions, reiterated the resolve of the group to follow in Dr Verghese's footsteps and make his motto 'Make Every Man a Success and No Man a Failure',
a reality.
