Sornammal Day celebrations
Synapse 2006 Inter- School Competitions were held by Sornammal Educational Trust on November 18, 2006.
In all, 53 schools participated and 20 of them won prizes.
Daniel Thomas Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Chennai, walked away with the Synapse Inter-School Championship Trophy for 2006 by scoring 34 points.
The championship trophy will be given away on November 25, on Sornammal Day.
Other awards are also to be given away on November 25.
'The Sornammal Young Achiever Award' is given to encourage the younger generation who have achieved excellence in academics, extra-curricular activities and community
services.
'The Ezhuchi Virudhu' is given to recognise the best women self-help groups in Chennai for their performance in managing micro credit, micro enterprises and for their
contribution towards the growth of its members and community at large.
The guests of honour at the function to be held on November 25 at Tamil Nadu Basketball Association Play Ground Street, Kilpauk Garden, Chennai, are Dr A N Kalanithi of
KHM Hospital, M P Vasimalai, ED, DHAN Foundation, Madurai, Supriya Sahu, Project Director, TANSAC, and poet Kanimozhi Karunanidhi of Karuthu and Tamil
Maiyam.
Sornammal Educational Trust
The trust was established in 1996 to help poor students continue their education by providing scholarships. Today, more than a thousand students get quality education
through its scholarship scheme and the SET Anne's School of Excellence.
The trust also provides livelihood support to more than 4,000 women through its self-help groups in Chennai.
