Electrofocus'06
The flagship, one-day technical festival of Electronics Engineers Association, Madras Institute of Technology (MIT), Anna University, Electrofocus '06, was celebrated Monday, February 27, 2006.
The event was inaugurated by Bala Murugan, deputy general manager, Embedded System Groups, HCL. He gave a presentation on embedded systems and the opportunities available in that field.
The day was filled with action-packed events which saw students from a number of colleges across the state measure up their technical skills and core competence against each other.
First off the block was Technometrix - an event involving technical paper presentation which saw a staggering 152 entries from all over the state. Of this the best 12 papers were selected and the writers given an opportunity to present it to knowledgeable audience.
The next event was Technotrivia which featured vestigial but surprising facts about engineering technologies. This on-stage event reminded us of quirky and interesting facts we tend to most often forget about technologies we use.
Students were also slogging it out in the labs putting both their coding and circuit debugging knowledge to good use. Tough competition was seen in the C programming event with the winning team coming out by a wafer thin margin.
Mathworks tested the limits of the theoretical knowledge of transforms, coding theorems all inherent aspects of DSP and their ability to convert them to Matlab Codes. Sticking to the more traditional part of electronics, Bug Buster tested the participants' ability to debug discrete circuits with specific problems embedded in the circuits by our design team.
The emerging and lucrative area of VLSI was well represented by Chip In which required the participants to covert theoretical digital challenges into hardware design language implementation. The next on-stage event was Ipso-Facto - the general quiz which had participants from various fields of engineering.
The final on-stage event was the traditional Technosavvy - the ultimate quiz for techies. It was another closely fought contest. While these contests were going on-stage, we also had H.O.P.E circuit design contest which was a display of practical circuits designed by participants from various cities. We also had Robotics - the robot design contest in which the participants were required to build a robot for the given specifications.
Another attraction of the day was the online gaming contest. This contest saw many participants pit their strategies against each other in the "Age of Conquerors" game. We also had Turing Point which was an artificial intelligence (AI) contest in which the participants produced games with AI. This was a brand new event held for the first time in the history of
Electrofocus.
The participants and sponsors of Electrofocus '06 were instrumental in making it a grand success.
