 Mechanica - One day to go!!!
Some years ago, the people at the Mechanical Department of IIT-M had a vision. A vision to celebrate the Spirit of Mechanical Engineering. Four years and several lakhs of rupees down the line, Mechanica 2006 aims to do the same, a rendezvous to celebrate that very spirit. The events in Mechanica are quite varied and diverse in their character. While envisioning the events we have made sure that there is always 'something for everyone'. From nerve-wracking competitions like Robotics and Contraptions where the best minds in the country go against each other, we have others like Gamedrome where one can always take a shot against the gaming gurus of the city. Apart from all the events of last year (which by themselves are quite a lot), this year we have introduced a set of new events like the ingenious Automobile Design Contest where one has to come up with a design for an automobile which does a certain task.
Mechanica has grown by leaps and bounds each year. Apart from tripling both the budget and the number of participants, even the quality of participation has been growing exponentially each year. The immense success of Mechanica was evident from the very fact that we had to deny sponsorship this year after a certain self-applied limit was reached. The extreme increase in the number of participants and the events has forced us to make Mechanica a two-day extravaganza this year. Even our publicity team has spread their net out and has invited colleges from all over south India and also some selected colleges from north India, thus making Mechanica the biggest national-level festival of its kind in India.
Apart from all this, it is the ease of participation that makes Mechanica the great success that it is today. The hospitality team of Mechanica has made sure that any out-station participant, no matter whether he/she is from an invited college or not, feels at home, and everything from accommodation to food is taken care of.
