BIM team bags IIM-AAA Anchor Cup
IIM-A’s Alumni Association Chennai Chapter (IIM-AAA) hosted the IIM-AAA Anchor Business Quiz on February 5, 2006, a one of a kind quiz where the best brains from business schools across south India locked horns for the IIM-AAA Anchor Cup 2006.
The winning team, which took home the trophy, was from Bharathidasan Institute of Management (BIM), Trichy, while the team from S.S.N School of Management and Computer Application, Chennai, won the second place. ICFAI Business School, Bangalore, came third and PSG Institute of Management, Coimbatore stood fourth.
The winners at the finals walked away with cash prizes worth Rs 20,000 each, while the first runners-up won cash prizes worth Rs 10,000 and the second runners-up, Rs 5,000 each, along with gift hampers.
The IIM-AAA Anchor Business Quiz aimed at enhancing the capabilities of upcoming managers and honing their problem-solving and decision-making skills. In a unique departure from the routine quiz programs, the IIM-AAA Anchor Business Quiz challenged students with simulated problem environments to test the participants’ decision-making and leadership skills. The finals consisted of 12 rounds, including oral, audio-visual rounds, a rapid fire round and also a round with questions based on a mock-play of typical business situations.
The quizmaster for the event was M Jagan and the event was coordinated by M Murlidharan and S V Ravi from the alumni of IIM-A.
The preliminary written test was conducted in four centres - Chennai, Bangalore, Coimbatore and Madurai - on January 8, 2006. The four teams from each centre that made it to the finals were G S Sudhakar and S Mahalakshmi of SSN School of Management and Computer Application, Chennai; Anupam Traphiyal and S V N Suresh Reddy of PSG College of Engineering, Coimbatore; Bekal Ajay Rao and B R Dileep Chandra Ahthresh of IFCAI Business School, Bangalore; Sathiaseelan and Aparna Rajagopal of BIM,
Trichy.
Satish Kumar, president, IIM-AAA (Chennai Chapter) and managing director, Henkel India Ltd, said, “The IIM-AAA Quiz, conducted continuously for five years (between 1989 and 1994), received tremendous response from across the country, making it one of the most popular programmes amongst the corporate fraternity. IIM-AAA has now relaunched this programme with a lot of dynamism and vitality and has reached 150 business schools across India. This unique programme is aimed at giving students a platform to showcase their capabilities and hone their skills in real-time situations to evolve as successful managers. Through this intiative, we also aim at sensitising the students to the latest corporate happenings.”
N Murali, president, Music Academy and joint managing director, 'The Hindu', presented the trophy to the winners. Nikhil Shah, member of the Shah family of Anchor Health and Beauty Care Pvt Ltd., gave away the prizes.
