Sornammal Day 2005
Sornammal Day was recently celebrated by the SET Anne’s School of Excellence, which is a unit of Sornammal Educational Trust, at Kamarajar Maligai in Ayanavaram. This was the fifth consecutive year that the Day was celebrated.
Chennai Police Commissioner R Nataraj was the Chief Guest on the occasion. Muruganandam, ED of Tamil Corporation for Development of Women Ltd, was the Guest of
Honour.
Over 400 students from 30 schools in and around the city participated enthusiastically in Mutan Fest 2005 competitions ranging from Tamil essay wring, folk songs, Mimicry, Folk Dance, Pot painting and greeting card making. St Johns Matriculation Hr Sec School, Villivakkam won the overall Championship Shield. Earlier, in the day the new building with six classes was inaugurated in the school.
10 Sornammal Young Achievers Award and 120 Scholarships were awarded to the students. These awards and scholarships are awarded every year to select achievers based on their performance at their school and their financial background. The self Help Groups mentored by Sornammal Educational Trust were recognised by the Trust and 5 groups were awarded as best SHG by Muruganandam, ED, Tamil Corporation for Development of Women Ltd. Among those who participated in the function was K Pandia Rajan, Trustee of the Sornammal Education Trust.
