Tamil Nadu Open University Vice-Chancellor, Dr M S Palanichamy, was awarded the Gavoty award by the Gavoty Foundation, France, in February at Tiruchi for his outstanding contribution in the area of "admitting rural women under equivalency and contributing education programmes in
TNOU".
Tamil Nadu Open University (TNOU) will start its B.Ed. course soon after getting the clearence from the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE), Palanichamy said.
He said the Government of Tamil Nadu and the Distance Education Council have given no-objection certificates to the university.
NCTE has inspected the infrastructure and the staff of the university. "We are eagerly awaiting clearance from NCTE for starting the course. If we get the clearence soon, we will start the course by June."
Speaking about the calendar year courses, the Vice-Chancellor stated that B.A. History, B.A. Tourism Studies, B.A. Economics, B.A. Tamil, B.A. English, B.Com, M.A. (History), M.A. (Political Science), M.A. (Public Adminstration), M.A. (Economics), M.A. (Psychology), M.A. (Sociology), M.Com, MBA (3 years), diploma in management, certificate programmes in computing, empowering women thorugh self-help groups, environmental studies, food and nutrition, rural development, teaching English and teaching primary school mathematics are on.
The last date for applications for these courses ends on April 30 and the applications can be got from the Tamil Nadu Open University, Directorate of Technical Education Campus, Guindy, Chennai-25, or at the nearest information centre, on payment of Rs 100.
The Tamil Nadu government has sanctioned Rs 77.8 lakh for the payment of staff salary and other infrastrutre. Already, the government has provided Rs 69.4 lakh to the university, Dr Palanichamy added.
