SlashSupport educational tie-up with AKCE
In an industry-academia partnership that aims at minimising the skills gap and make students readily employable, US tech support company SlashSupport has signed a MoU with Arulmigu Kalasalingam College of Engineering (AKCE), Krishnan Kovil,
Srivilliputhur.
SlashSupport is a part of the 4,000-people CSS Group, which also has ReadyTestGo and Cybernet Software Systems in its fold. SlashSupport has over 3,000 professionals employed at its four offshore facilities in Chennai. The company, which has over 30 global customers, has an onsite facility in San Jose, California.
The MoU was signed on September 18, 2006, by Dr Thangaraj, principal, AKCE, and Shiv Kumar, principal founder and chairman, CSS Group.
As per the agreement, SlashSupport will work closely with AKCE for technical knowledge sharing, developing training curriculum and offering employment opportunity for AKCE students.
SlashSupport and its global partner Alcatel will jointly set up a converged networking lab in network engineering at AKCE and develop course curriculum. SlashSupport also has plans to establish a networking scholarship programme to recognise top performing talent in the college.
In addition, SlashSupport plans to provide a 3-4 month training programme on business communication to the students of AKCE, in the last semester.
Commenting on the partnership with AKCE, Shiva Ramani, CEO, SlashSupport, said, "Traditionally, attracting high-quality talent with requisite skills for 'Networking' tech support has been tough. We believe this partnership between SlashSupport and AKCE is a significant development in the move towards equipping the students with preparatory soft skills and training in networking and would help them adapt to the frequent technology changes in the business environment and make them ready for entry into the corporate world."
Shiva Ramani added, "SlashSupport will offer its training curriculum and technical knowledge to AKCE and will train the AKCE faculty to help them get Alcatel certification."
SlashSupport expects to hire the students graduating in Networking and Computer Engineering into its ETAS (Enterprise Technology Application) and CTAS (Customer Technology Application) divisions.
TCNE will facilitate the students with the right skills exclusively for the selection process with SlashSupport and also equip the students with industrial certifications post-recruitment.
SlashSupport provides advanced technical and customer support services, remote system management services and vendor neutral support for organisations adopting open source technology. SlashSupport has over 30 global technology corporations as its customers including NTT and Alcatel, the Global Networking major, which has invested significantly in a tech support lab at the SlashSupport facility in Chennai.
Arulmigu Kalasalingam College of Engineering
(AKCE)
Located about 60 km from Madurai in Krishnan Kovil, AKCE is an ISO 9001:2000 certified institution built on a 200-acre campus with a vision to produce technically competent, socially committed and responsible technocrats and administrators by imparting quality education.
The institution has nine UG and 10 PG courses in engineering in addition to MBA and MCA. Six departments of the college have been recognised as research centres by Anna University. AKCE has established a Centre Of Relevance and Excellence (CORE) in Networking under the ageis of TIFAC – Technology Information, Forecasting & Assessment Council - which is funded by the Department of Science and Technology.
