Dental awareness in rural areas
The commissioner, Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments, Government of Tamil Nadu, T Pitchandi, urged students of dental colleges to serve in the rural areas as much as they could and also help promote dental awareness, besides undertaking research activities in the field of dental medicine.
He was chairing the college day celebrations of the Meenakshi Ammal Dental College, Alapakkam Main Road, Maduravoyal, Chennai, recently.
College principal, Dr P Jayakumar, in his welcome speech, traced the development of the institution ever since it was founded and also highlighted the facilities provided by the management. He emphasised the remarkable achievements made by the college in academics, sports and cultural events.
Pitchandi was the chief guest of the function and distributed the prizes to students who excelled in academics, culturals and sports.
He also congratulated the college for having achieved 'A' grade in NAAC accreditation and attributed it to the hard work and cooperation of the entire staff.
Dr E Munirathnam Naidu, Vice Chancellor, MAHER (Meenakshi Academy of Higher Education and Research) University, addressed the gathering. In his speech, he praised the management for its cooperation in all the endeavours. He appreciated the high standards achieved by the administrators of the college and advised them to strive for still higher standards.
The dean of faculties and director, C M Nandagopal, gave away the sports shields and trophies. Dr N Ambalavanan, vice-principal, proposed a vote of thanks. A N Radhakrishnan welcomed the gathering and appreciated the staff for the overall performance of the college.
