Hysteria 2004
The inter-years cultural fiesta, ‘Hysteria’ 2004, at the
Stella Maris College in Chennai from October 7 to 9 saw a cultural programme which transported the entire campus to a world of colours, music, dance and a whole lot of fun. Frenzied activities, participants running from one block to the other, others scurrying about with pom-poms and charts, was the order of the day, as all the four years’ students battled it out for three days. But at the end of day 3, the 2nd-years emerged overall winners.
The inter-years, as is the norm, kicked off with each year presenting their theme. The ones who impressed everyone were the second years with their theme ‘Ching’, symbolised by the broom. To put it simply ‘Ching’ was their slogan, and through their presentation (which was a parody of the Lord of the ‘Rings’), this bunch proclaimed that they would sweep everyone off their feet.
More than 30 events were spread over the three days. The programme included all forms of
music and dance as major events and a host of minor events, ranging from creative writing, jam, quiz, mehendi, dramatics and adzap, to entertaining events like ‘Eat-o-mania’, ‘Whose line is it anyway’, ‘Dumb charades’ and ‘Spoof it all’. Points were not only awarded for the first, second and third places but for cheering also. The highlights of the cultural programme, apart from the regular crowd-pullers, like western dance and light music, were some minor events too, like ‘Dumb charades’, ‘Antakshari’ and ‘Chuk dum dum’. In the end, minor problems like technical glitches did not come in the way of pure fun and entertainment.
