Here is a college course that turns naïve, timid, college girls into talented
women by offering a masters degree in
Social
Work.
The SNDB Vaishnav College, Chromepet, introduced the Master of
Social Work (MSW) degree last year and within a year, the faculty and the students have won laurels for their creativity and
innovative
ideas. Accolades to Janice Joseph, one of the faculty. “Our aim is to tap the hidden talent of the students and channelise it.”
They concentrate on the overall personality development behavioural science,
human resources management (HRM), etc. This is the only women’s college specialisation in
HRM. The students are sent to villages to experience the actual living conditions there. They form groups and get the best of guidance. Likewise, they are sent to hospitals,
schizophrenia treatment centres,
orphanages, etc., to understand what their future work would entail.
The department embraces all aspects of life under one roof. For this, the fee charged is particularly low, compared to other colleges, declare the students.
The department recently organised a cultural festival, called ‘Spark’, in which many colleges participated.
The masters degree gives students an opportunity to find good placements in India and overseas. They have bright chances of becoming a personnel executive, field coordinator or counsellors in medical and psychology units. The grooming takes place in a natural way. The course tutors them to be self-reliant and independent. When women are still considered a weaker sex, a masters in this course would guarantee equality of sexes.
Admissions are still open to the course and those who want to enrol for this novel subject can contact the institution:
