The British Council celebrated World Book Day with a series of activities from April 23 to 28 in
Chennai.
The World Book Day was on April 23, 2007.
The celebrations included:
Book Display - A special book display on subjects like Lifestyle, Fiction, Self-development, Wildlife, Engineering, Social Science and books for children.
More than 250 new books have been added recently. Books on display can be reserved by library members.
Treasure hunt - A paragraph from a book on display during this week was put up in the library; members had to guess the book from where the
paragraph was taken. All those who guessed right were given prizes.
Quiz on Shakespeare April 25, 2007 - Celebrating Shakespeare's birthday this week! How well do you know Shakespeare? A participatory quiz with
special prizes for the library members, organised in association with the Centre for Shakespeare Studies,
Chennai.
Special contest April 23-24, 2007 - Free library memberships and the latest Harry Potter book was there to be won.
Young Learners Centre members had special events like story-telling and painting competition.
Surprise gifts - A special surprise gift for the library member who borrowed the maximum number of books last year (April 2006 to March 2007).
People who became members of the library this week took away a surprise gift along with all the other benefits.
