Virtual oil exploration
The
decade ahead is going to be more challenging and exciting as India starts
developing the oil sector as the pillar of the economy and embarks on the
adventure of becoming an oil power in the SAARC region.
A 2-day course entitled 'XPLORE'
is being jointly organised by Jaya Alliance for Management and Technology, an
initiative of the Jaya group of collges, and Simprentis, Denmark, in Chennai on
May 27 and 28.
The programme will be led by
Prof O Gregersen, chairman, F.I. Business School,
Denmark, and O Ellefsen, CEO, Simprentis, Denmark, who are industry
practitioners familiar with industry responsibilities and challenges and will
provide programme participants with valuable and applicable information, ideas
and perspectives in petroleum exploration business. Their enthusiasm for sharing
their expertise makes this a must attend programme.
XPLORE will be the industry’s
premier comprehensive educational event. Content has been updated to present the
financial and technical focus in the industry while still covering the
fundamentals that are essential to petroleum
technology management.
XPLORE is provided as open
course for anyone to attend, as bespoke internal courses for businesses or
educational institutions, and has a sponsored corporate programme. It is felt
that such a course would be very useful for professionals in the oil industry
and the many interested students and graduates who are just beginning to
consider job prospects in the petroleum
industry.
Those
already employed in the oil industry may have an opportunity to update their
knowledge related to the domain. Those who are currently involved in training or
teaching in business or technology management education may find the course
useful.
XPLORE will be used as a
springboard to kick-start the task of educating students, executives, educators,
engineers and professionals across the country. The enthusiasm shown by hundreds
of participants around the world is truly inspiring
The purpose of XPLORE is to
give an understanding of the dynamics and risks of petroleum exploration. XPLORE
is positioned in a classroom setting with facilitators guiding the learner
through the simulation. Central to the learning model are the competitive and
collaborative elements: teams operate in the same simulated reality and are put
in a situation where they must both compete and collaborate. Participants learn
by acting as if they were a petroleum exploration company. Their task is to
discover commercially viable volumes of oil in a new province.
The simulation games approach
that the programme adopts implies that concrete situations are recreated by
associating technology/business games domain and the computer.
Early sessions in the programme
provide participants with an introduction to petroleum exploration and
associated business principles. The remainder of the course draws upon the
analytical tool, simulation and intuition developed to evaluate the dynamics and
risks of the industry.
XPLORE was originally developed
for an Italian energy company and all XPLORE Intellectual Property Rights (IPR)
are now transferred to Simprentis, Denmark (www.simprentis.com).
The programme was one of the seven workshops presented as part of the
pedagogical programme at the Siec-Isbe conference in Stockholm, Sweden.
K Navaraj, Vice Chairman, Jaya
Group of Institutions said to participate in the course one must be able to
operate a web browser. Apart from that there are no requirements knowledge of
geology or petroleum industry.
The full version of the course
is available at www.jayagc.org
The college management expects
to be able to offer financial support to a few participants.
The course administrators would
need to have all expressions of interest in the course by May 20. Those
interested may also e-mail at vc@jetsb.ac.in
