India will continue to experiment: Chappell
Mumbai, Nov 27: Unconcerned over the spate of criticism over the Indian team's continued experimentation in the one-dayers, coach Greg Chappell today reiterated that it would continue with an eye on the 2007 World Cup. "We will keep trying different things in different games. Sometimes, they will look normal, at other times may look out of the ordinary.
"It's a long journey to the 2007 World Cup and we would continue to do what needs to be done irrespective of what others think," Chappell told reporters on the eve of the fifth and final one-day international against South Africa. Chappell, whose tenure as the Indian team coach extends till the conclusion of the World Cup in the West Indies, also said that the entire Indian team, including himself, had learned a lot by playing against a tough team like South Africa which would stand it in good stead on the road to the mega event.
"It's a very good thing that we have been challenged by a team like South Africa who play very good cricket. It's a great challenge and a big learning experience for all of us. The benefits of this series would be seen in a few months or within the year," the former Australian skipper said. The Indian coach also quickly sprang up to the defence of Sachin Tendulkar, who is having a lean run after a blazing return to cricket from an injury lay-off. (Agencies)
