India in West Indies - News
Lara aims to bat for five sessions

St Kitts, June 23: West Indian captain Brian Lara is plotting to give India a dose of their own medicine by batting for at least five sessions and put the visitors under pressure in the third cricket Test here. "We want to bat in similar fashion as India, bat for five sessions and that probably would set up a game for us," Lara said after West Indies ended the first day's play at 207 for one at the Warner Park stadium.

But Lara admitted that it would not be easy against a side which has some world class bowlers. "It's not going to come easy. India has fought hard and we got to keep in our mind that they have world class bowlers." The left-hander was delighted with the show of his openers and particularly by the way the batsmen were trying to avoid getting out lbw which had been the team's nemesis in the previous two Test matches.

"We are looking at the way we have got out and try to limit that as much as possible. Each batsman has gone through his different dismissals. Batsmen are now trying to get their foot out of the way since we have had a lot of lbw decisions." "Kumble bowls off-stump, wicket-to-wicket, he tries to run left-handers to slips and get lbws and right-handers the same way too. So it's no wonder he hits the pads more often, than say somebody like Harbhajan Singh.

"It's not as if West Indian batsmen are more deficient than the Indians in their techniques", he added. (Agencies)
