BCCI to discuss Chappell-Ganguly row
Kolkata, Sept 23: The BCCI today said Indian coach Greg Chappell's complaint about skipper Sourav Ganguly would be placed at a meeting of the high-powered committee at Mumbai on September 27. Chappel's complaint along with Ganguly's version would be discussed at the meeting, BCCI secretary S K Nair told newspersons here.
He, however, said Ganguly was yet to get in touch with the board on the issue. The committee comprising former Indian skippers Sunil Gavaskar, Ravi Shastri and Srinivas Venkatraghavan, Nair, BCCI chief Ranbir Singh Mahendra and his predecessor Jagmohan Dalmiya, would review the performance of the Indian team during its recent tours to Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe.
"But it's a matter of concern to us how such an official document (e-mail) leaked out. Things like this have happened earlier also. Reports of physios have reached the press before reaching me," Nair said, adding the BCCI was trying to find out foolproof methods to stop such leaks. Nair, who refused to disclose the exact contents of Chappell's e-mail, said it was not possible to find the point of leakage as the e-mail was marked to several BCCI officials. He admitted that some insider might have leaked it.
In an extra-ordinary attack on Ganguly, Chappell has described him as "physically and mentally unfit" to continue as captain and accused him of dividing the team. Chappell said Ganguly's attitude was not ideal for India to strive for the 2007 World Cup and his leadership commanded almost no faith or respect from team members. (Agencies)
