Believe it or not people would need only one set
of clothes if titanium oxide in its molecular form was applied to
them.
Such clothes would not absorb sweat or any
external particles but retain an everlasting shine.
"Man would require only one T-shirt or any other
clothes since they would not get dirtied by dust or any other
particles if the chemical was used by applying nano-technology," A
Sivathanu Pillai, chief controller of research and development in
Defence Research and Development Organsation (DRDO), said during an
interaction with college students in Coimbatore recently.
"You can just wipe off tea if it falls on the
shirt. It will not be absorbed by the shirt. The shine would
remain," Pillai said, much to the surprise of over 800 students and
faculty members assembled for the function.
Applying titanium oxide to the clothes would not
cause any harm to the human skin, he assured.
Pillai jokingly remarked that the revenues of the
textile industry would dip since people would be happy with one or
two sets of clothes.
The DRDO has been conducting research in nano-technology
for quite some time. (Agencies)
