You never fail to beam
Hale and green
In clover of foliage.
The trees stand in ovation
As you wind along the avenues -
And wherever you turn,
A street or a lane,
Green boughs of acclaim
Greet you in canopied charm.
From your homes
Hushed in sleep ere dawn.
Fragrant blossoms fill the air.
You are an Eden for early strollers
But the vendors of milk and news
Bypass your charm
In wheeling haste.
Far-flung from the diesel zone
You are the ascent
Of a dwelling sprawl
Bosoming homes of culture
In
Diffusion of elegant designs.
Perched so high
You are blown by tides
Of winds
Scaring to lift you
To the darkened sky
When the rainy Hyades
Teased the dim sea.
But when the vapour clears,
The sun raring
To burst forth
Breaks into a light
Of radiance warming your heart.
