However, I could not help opening one which seemed rather unusual and sent by one maveli@ pathalam.com. Is it the same Maveli in whose name Malayalees celebrate Onam, I wondered. Yea, the legendary demon king who ruled Kerala in the past and whose golden rule came to be the Devas' envy so that they persuaded Vamana to send him in exile to Pathalam, the netherworld. Hoping it was not a virus, I opened the mail and it read like this:
Hi Mallu, This is Maveli. To be frank, I became Internet savvy only recently. Now I spend most of the time browsing - a welcome relief to the boredom in Pathalam.
We plan to develop the sites as platforms for e-governance. We have an e-mail service and a search engine powered by www.pale.com. And honestly, the moment I got an exposure to the Net I began to search for an ideal place - a place just like the Kerala under my reign. I came across only one place which is ideal. I am happy to tell you that that place is Maa Mallupuram Chennai. I wanted to call at Maa Mallupuram then and there, but could not do so because of Vamana's ban. So I decided to wait till Thiruvonam. I will visit you this Thiruvonam by cutting short my sojourn in Kerala by two hours. Don't expect me for lunch as I can't avoid A K Antony's Onam sadhya in Kerala. He is very particular that I should participate as it is the first Onam in his present tenure as Chief Minister. Moreover, I want to know how things are going on under his noiseless rule. So prepare only a brunch for me. I don't have time to visit all homes in Maa Mallupuram. So arrange a meeting, that is better. Next year I'll spend half a day with you and will have lunch also, OK? Catch you later For the kind attention of all, please take this as an invitation and assemble at Maa Mallupuram junction at sharp 1000 hrs on Thiruvonam day (August 31, Friday) to welcome Maveli.
Dress code: Juba, dhoti and set mundu. Artificial flowers are not allowed for Athapookkalam competition. There won't be Puli kali as it can be a bit sensitive in this part of the country. Make the celebrations a grand success. Wishing you a happy Thiruvonam. - Salil Jose Readers' response/inputs can be e-mailed to salil@chennaionline.com. |
