How well do you know about your flag?
Yes, facts to be known, not to boast or brag;
Well, with Independence day around the corner,
The flag does symbolise the nation’s honour.
The Chinese and Indians did embark
Inventing flags making their mark;
Over three thousand years marks the advent
Of the flags that they did indeed invent.
Conveying many a message and story
About culture, country and history.
For, by a flag, a peasant knew
The descent of a nobleman true.
And do you know or care to comment?
What do colors on the flag represent?
Well, lets start with red, white and yellow,
Leaving the rest for you folks to follow.
About red -well, you are no stranger,
To know that color signals danger!
For if at "red" you do not stop
You will be apprehended by a cop!
So declared you are a traffic offender
While white in battle implies surrender.
And, while white may put the victor at ease,
A yellow flag signals an infectious disease!
A black flag with skull and crossed bone
Bears the stamp of the priviliged pirate alone!
Even the position of a flag has a tale to tell
Of its sorrow, victory and death knell!
The flag at Olymics that flies higher than the rest
Indicates that country to be the winner and best.
At UN headquarters, flags are equal in height
Symbolising each nation’s equality and right.
Ships use flags for communication and more
At positions different called semaphore.
Albeit an innocuous cloth soaring high
A complex story behind each flag does lie.
Well, learn what it means and don’t you lag
Remember when next you salute that flag!
