Balagi
Maharishi Gargar had a son named Balagi, also known as Gargiyar. Balagi was proud that he was well-versed in the Vedas and an accomplished teacher. Hence he was known as 'proud'
Balagi.
Once he went to the king of Kasi, Ajatashatru, and said he would teach Brahma Swarupa to the king. Balagi added that one who lived with
God Suryan would be considered a
'Brahmam'.
When Ajatashatru nonchalantly replied that this would be simple, though he did not understand it, Balagi immediately said he would accept the king as his guru. The King pointed out that it was not proper to consider him as his guru, but that he would explain some important things in life to
Balagi.
Ajatashatru took Balagi to a sleeping man and woke him up. He asked Balagi to say what the person had dream about and where he had been in the dream. Balagi stared at the king, not knowing the answer.
The king explained that in a dream we get close to our soul and unknowingly we get merged with it. Feeling the inner soul while we are awake would be greater feeling. Everything in the universe comes out of our inner soul, as fire sparks come out of fire.
Then Ajatashatru briefed Balagi about Brahmam. (Brahadaranyaka Upanishad II.1)
