Child Relief and You (CRY), a non-profit organisation working for child rights in India, has announced Raveena Tandon, leading film actress, as its Ambassador for Children for the year 2003. On January 2, Raveena will play at the charity match of the Tata Open Tennis Championships in Chennai, which will raise funds for CRY.

Raveena Tandon has been associated with CRY and the projects it supports for some time now. In the coming year, she will be more involved in CRY initiatives, helping raise awareness of the issues impacting less privileged children in our country, while being involved in fund-raising.

In the past, Raveena has supported CRY’s programme of Quality Institutional Care for Children advocating the right of every child to be brought up in a nurturing family environment, as per the UN Convention on Child Rights, to which India is a signatory. She has also supported the cause of the girl child in India.

Pervin Varma, CEO, CRY, said, “The situation of less privileged children in India today is grim. We at CRY believe it is possible for individuals and corporate organisations who have the conviction that they can make a difference, to make change possible. Raveena Tandon has been associated with CRY for some time now and so was an unanimous choice to become the Hope Ambassador for the millions of children in our country.”

Raveena said, “I am proud to be chosen to represent the hope that every child has a right to. I believe that more celebrities should leverage their status to promote awareness about issues that concern our society.”
