The Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, Ms. Jayalalithaa, formally launched
www.tnhealth.org. the web site designed by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. According to the government press release, this site has been launched to make the welfare schemes and their progress reach the people. The release also said that this is the first step in harnessing Information Technology to offer health-related information and services to the general public. This web site has been launched as part of the 15-point programme announced recently, to make TN the leader in all spheres, the release added. People can chat live with doctors and specialists everyday between 4 pm and 6 pm.
Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister said, "This web site has been launched to demonstrate how IT can be used to enhance the quality of people's lives. I assure the people of TN that this government. will eradicate poverty, provide enhanced welfare through introduction of a number of schemes and provide quality health care to all. I congratulate everyone involved in the development and the successful launch of this site," she added.

1. Details of the Heath and Family Welfare ministry with all the departments under it with name, address, telephone numbers of all the officers in the various departments and the services offered by each department.
2. Detailed address listing of hospitals and welfare
centres.
3. Details of facilities available in Govt. Hospitals like CT scan, MRI centres and the charges.
4. Forms for registration of births and
deaths.
5. Rules and procedures for admission to medical colleges and admission/application forms.
6. Home remedies from indigenous medicine.
7. Welfare schemes for pregnant mothers and children.
8. List of essential drugs, doctors' guides, publications of the Directorate of Medical Services, research papers and research news.
9. Detailed information on various mental illnesses, creating awareness among the public and their legal aspects.

1. A Hudco aided, 2000 bed annex in
General Hospital, to be set up at a cost of 104.47 crores.
2. A new building, at a cost of 12.05 crores, for plastic surgery in Stanley Medical.
3. High technical machines, with Finnish aid, at a cost of 86 crores in all the medical college hospitals.
4. Modernisation of the Tambaram TB Sanatorium, with the help of an American company, CDC Atlanta, at a cost of Rs 4.70
crores.
5. A 16-crore scheme for eradication of filariasis, with the help of WHO.
6. Detection and eradication of TB with Central government assistance, at a cost of 11
crores.
